AirPods rise: How much do Apple earbuds and headphones cost right now?

Apple recently raised the prices of all its audio products in India after the tariff increase. AirPods Gen 2 and Gen 3 prices, along with AirPods Max and AirPods Pro prices, are up by up to 10 percent. AirPods Gen 3 is now available for Rs 20,500.

New prices can be found listed on the Apple Online Store. Depending on the audio product you are trying to buy, you may see as high as 6,200 rupees.

What are the new prices?

Here’s a quick comparison of old and new prices for every Apple product you can get right now.

The AirPods Gen 2 that was previously available at Rs 12,900 is now selling for Rs 14,100, with an effective rise of Rs 1,200. AirPods Gen 3 that was originally available for Rs 18,500 is now available for Rs 20,500, with a rise of Rs 2,000.

The Apple AirPods Pro, which was originally priced at Rs 24,900, is now priced at Rs 26,300 with a rise of Rs 1,400. Finally, the Apple AirPods Max, the company’s only pair of headphones, saw a whopping Rs 6,200, going from Rs 59,900 to Rs 66,100.

You can still get AirPods at old prices right now

Although the new prices are already in effect on Apple’s website, users can still get audio products at discounted prices from retailers such as Amazon, Flipkart, Croma, Reliance Digital, and others.

The increase comes shortly after “the calibration of tariff rates to provide a tiered rate structure to facilitate local manufacturing of wearable devices, audio devices, and electronic smart meters.” This was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during her budget speech in February 2022.

Apple has not revealed whether the new rules will prompt the company to manufacture AirPods domestically. The company currently only manufactures some iPhone models in India. These devices include the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12, along with the iPhone SE and the latest, the iPhone 13, which is said to start local manufacturing this month.
